Volunteer Appreciation Picnic

Note from the Director:

What a grand time was had by all volunteers who need to be recognized and thanked for all their time and efforts to support the Meals on Wheels program through one heck of a tough year!! The love they demonstrate for their fellow community members is remarkable. Every day is a reason to gather, socialize and do something with each other, for each other!

Some of the drivers of the program have been delivering meals for more than 20 years!! Some are brand new this past year and stepped up to the plate to deliver through rain or shine, sleet , hail, snow and cold temperatures – never missing a day! This goes for the kitchen assistants, too. Their personal time for the good of others: chop chop chop! Fresh veggies and fruit prepped daily.  Delivery volunteers pick up donations from Hannaford and Shaws through the Fresh Produce Program, sometimes arriving at the store as early as 6 am!!!

The thrift store workers and the dining room servers are glad to be back in business  as we reopened July 6th.  Today was their  day to relax  and be merry, a  time for all of them to eat and enjoy some great music by “Hermit Hallow String Band,” a superb blue grass!  Very lively and entertaining!!!

Delicious All American hot dogs and hamburgers, potato salad,  Mac slaw, and baked beans was provided by Emily and Mike Lightfoot.  Scrumptious carrot cake and chocolate cake for dessert was created  by Rebecca  Worthington, a local baker.  Sweetwater soda was kindly donated from Munch  Family.  Other community members came forth for the event so the almost 40 weekly volunteers could enjoy each other’s company; they normally only see each other in passing as they go about their volunteerism.  Young at Heart is a wonderful place to share friendship and socialize. It is also a fun filled time to do for others, as they would wish to be done for them!

Our new motto is “Eat  Smart, Move More.” Our volunteers  do exactly that each week by participating in prepping, serving, delivering nutritious meals to those who wish to have home delivered meals, and of course, to those who wish to come in and dine with their friends.

Our new motto is “Eat Smart, Move More.”

“Moving more “ is exercising, selling wares, playing games, participating in activities to stay Young!  Stay Young at Heart, but also in mind, body and spirit!! It is a pleasure to be the site director of such a dedicated group of folks!
